The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are a group of 19 public, autonomous institutes of management education and research in India. They primarily offer postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programmes. The establishment of IIMs was initiated by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, based on the recommendation of the planning commission.

IIM Bangalore has a good infrastructure with classrooms and discussion rooms of international standards, auditorium and well equipped library spread over a fifty thousand sq. ft. area with more than million books, periodicals, journals, working papers, online databases and magazines.

IIMB programmes
Courses offered in IIM Bangalore are Postgraduate programme in Management (PGP), Post Graduate programme in Software Enterprise and Management (PGSEM), Post Graduate programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) and Fellow programme in Management (FPM). IIMB also offers a special programme in Postgraduate programme in Software Enterprise Management (PGSEM). The programme is about the education management that admits 150 candidates every year.
Admissions are made based on the performance of candidates in competitive Exams like CAT, GMAT or PGSEM written test. However candidates need to undergo interview process as well.
Placements for 2009
In spite of global recession and economic slowdown IIM Bangalore was least affected in 2009 and managed to find jobs for all the students. IIMB had invited more than 100 companies for the recruitment process.
