Harvard University
An intelligent student's dream, United States's pride and the epitome of quality education, Harvard University gets its name in the honor of John Harvard, the supporter of the league when it was initiated in the 16th century. Boston metropolitan area accommodates a majority of its campus. Harvard Yard in Cambridge accommodates the main campus though.
Any batch of students in Harvard are individual toppers of their respective (prior to coming here) schools and colleges. Not many universities (not even cities) can boast of giving eight presidents (United States) along with more than 75 Nobel Laureates. Harvard is deservedly known as the 'intellectual's playground.' The research university offers more than 45 undergraduate majors, along with 134 graduate degree programs. In addition, more than 30 professional degrees are supported by the varsity.
There wouldn't be any US based college directory, educational lists (college and university rankings), polls, findings, forums including discussions which don't accommodate the university. Apart from United States, the campus is a breeding ground for many other countries' ministers and intellectuals. Not only that, whenever any movie scene or a novel paragraph depicts a meritorious student, most probably he or she is referred as a Harvard student.
The Harvard University Library System boasts of over 15 million volumes accommodated in more than 80 individual libraries. There are many museums which form a part of the university; some prominent ones include the Fogg Museum of Art, the Busch-Reisinger Museum, the Arthur M. Sackler Museum and the Harvard Museum of Natural History.
Now coming to the fact that gives the university an edge; these include some of the best faculty members, sports facilities, one of the largest library systems along with solid education based principles on which the campus runs.
While talking about notable alumni from the university, even a paperback novel wouldn't be sufficient to describe the list. From prominent writers to thinking philosophers, from able politicians to valuable social workers, the world owes a lot to the Harvard University.
The campus has been extended in phases during the last century. Major research centers here include Berkman Center for Internet & Society, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Harvard Clinical Research Institute, Harvard Institute of Economic Research and many others.
